Noémie Schellens is a Belgian light-lyric soprano.

Her warm, genuine and touching timbre had inspired people in many ways. She has been appointed cultural ambassador to her hometown, a French quality wine bears her name and several songs have been composed for her.

Noémie holds a Master's degree in Voice Studies from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where she graduated with great distinction. After that, she studied in France with the German baritone Udo Reinemann. She follows masterclasses by Mia Besselinck, Margarida Natividade, Susanna Eken, Yard Van Nes, Keith Warner and Boudewijn Jansen (DNO Amsterdam).

She received the prestigious ‘Médaille Bronze Arts Sciences Lettres’ in Paris. At the moment, she is being coached by Charlotte Margiono.

She works with various orchestras and ensembles in Belgium and abroad. During the last season, she performed with the National Belgian Orchestra conducted by Hugh Wolff.  The children's opera Detskaya (Mussorgski) took her to the Opéra Bastille in Paris and the Opéra de Bordeaux. Furthermore, she has performed at the Dresden Opera (Irene K), De Munt (Frascati Symphonic), BOZAR, De Singel,...

Together with guitarist Maarten Vandenbemden, she has set up an intimate collaboration giving concerts regularly throughout Europe.

For the occasion of the XIVe Sommet de la Francophonie, she sang at the Stade de Martyrs in Kinshasa, as well as in Kampala (Uganda).

Sometimes, she likes to take on less obvious projects, such as the multidisciplinary performances with Sacred Places (São Paulo, Brazil, Visões Urbanas/New Delhi, DIAF-Delhi International Art Festival), the 'This is propaganda' project (Tino Sehgal), creations by Music Theatre Transparant (Big Bang, Opéra de Lille, Opera-ballet Vlaanderen) and the recent collaboration with Bassel Abou Fakher and the Qotob Trio.

She sings creations by contemporary classical composers such as Walter Hus (Er-varen), Peter Ritzen (Spanish Songs), Martin Valcke, Orlando Gough (Shouting Fence, Kaaitheater) and Peter Spaepen (Woesj 4Hoog, international tour).

As cultural ambassador for the town of Leuven (StadsSopraan), she organises 10 large scale projects ('Canta Luna', a multiple choir open-air opera, and the 'Opera Mobile', a travelling concert stage, among others).

She works as a singing teacher for the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie where she provides vocal coaching for the youth choir.

Noémie is also passionate about acting. She starred, for instance, in the British feature film 'A quiet passion' by Terence Davies, playing the role of Mabel Loomis Todd.

For the Belgian film 'Achter de Wolken' she sang on the soundtrack. She also acted in the music video for 'You and me' by Milow and various Belgian TV series (Zuidflank, Code 37, 13 geboden,...).

Soon, she will perform with BOHO Strings conducted by David Ramael and in 'Die Schöpfung' (Haydn) with the Bach Academy in Alden-Biezen, among other projects.
